Made In Brunel is the yearly exhibition for graduating in the School of Engineering and Design at Brunel University. The exhibition is totally run by students who organise everything from the venue, to designing the exhibition stands.
Currently in its second year, Made In Brunel is gearing up for its exhibition in the Summer 2007. I decided to take part in the project, while only being a second year student, so that I could be apart of something that will eventually showcase my work to the design industry.
My interest in this year's exhibition began with the website therefore I joined the 'Digital Team' responsible for the conception and design for the site. Everyone in the team had the chance to come up with their own ideas for the concept for the new site.
I suggested a modular design, that was based around having content displayed in seperate boxes or 'modules' each of which reflecting content on the site. Each of the boxes were orange to reflect the 'Made In Brunel' logo, however I used a slight gradient to give it some depth. After some discussions with the Digital Team we decided to go with my design and incorporate ideas from other peoples designs. The team then went on to develop other aspects of the website, including the template for the rest of the design, the student 'profile' section as well as adding refinements to the modular design idea - for example footers and navigation changes.
The first phase of the website launched in January 2007, a number of other planned phases including the implementation of the 'student profile' are planned over the years. This is coupled with the development of an online e-ticket system for visitors of the exhibition.
