Myleene Official is a long running website for the classical musician and television presenter Myleene Klass founded, developed and funded by myself. Now in its fifth version, it has evolved into a community based website powered by open source software to manage the online forum and members area authorisation.
The current design is XHTML and CSS compliant and enhanced with various pieces of simple PHP scripting. It employs a template system, where pages are imported using PHP includes and apache's mod_rewrite has been used to create user friendly URL's where possible.
As well as the use of open source software for the community, the site also uses two tools in the management of its news and member's gallery namely Word Press and Coppermine Photo Gallery - both of which have been customised to continue the design of the site.
The site is fully indexed and optimised for search engines, including Google and features a site search to allow users to quickly find and locate the information they need. It also uses newer technologies such as an RSS feed for the news allowing visitors to keep up to date without having to visit the site.
The site exercises various usability heuristics, such as the top logo linking to the homepage, underlining links, giving feedback to the user for the main menu options as well as offering the ability to search the site from every page creating a pleasant website to visit.
Since opening, the site had gained a massive 10,000+ members to its community and member's area and in one month, November 2006, it received 49,000 visitors and transferred some 24GB of data. The site is currently ranked No. 1 for searches for 'Myleene Klass' and 'Myleene' in Google's Index.
